| MOFCOM Holds Training Course on Distribution and Quality and Safety of Agricultural Produce |

Training course on distribution and quality and safety of agricultural produce was held in Fuzhou, Fujian province on March 31. Assistant Minister Huang Hai attended and addressed the course. Over 200 representatives from local authorities of commerce, distribution enterprises, relevant departments and Fuzhou University took part in the training course.
Huang Hai fully affirmed Fujian's exploration in promoting agricultural produce distribution and stressed that all officials engaged in commerce should completely recognize the significance of the distribution from the view of commercial work's development.
Favorable opportunities confronting with agricultural produce distribution, said Huang. On one hand, all level governments took great importance and support to it, there was lots of successful examples of rebuilding rural standardized market, upgrading agricultural produce whole sale market, and the quickened intensive agricultural production created advantages for large purchase of all distribution enterprises. On the other hand, the foundation of such distribution was laid by the authorities. MOFCOM implemented Agricultural Produce Wholesale Market and Distribution Company Development Project, fostered 100 large agricultural produce whole sale market and 100 large distribution enterprises. Furthermore, the rural commercial information service was boosted, rural commercial network and review were set up, and supporting policy on distribution infrastructure facility, reduction or exemption of tax and import and export to Taiwan was put forward in succession.
Huang emphasized that agricultural produce market should be expanded, centering on distribution development, by strengthening distribution, fostering such organization and developing modern distribution mode. New distribution channel should be developed and the main operation body should be fostered. We should also formulate long-term developing program, set up effective regulations, expert consultation and statistics index system, seize quality safety and integrate agricultural produce distribution promotion with health and life safety of urban and rural citizens.
The training course was hosted by Department of Market System Development, and jointly sponsored by Carrefour (China) Foundation for Food Safety, which has held 13 sessions since 2005 and freely trained a total of 2000 farmers, brokers, representatives of distribution and commercial officials from central and west China.
